Shana paleologos
An exploration of the subconscious and conscious. Reflecting on experience with empathy and/or disgust. Expressed passionately through an act of love.
From an early age Shana Paleologos was compelled to watch human interaction and her favorite thing was imaginative play. She was extremely shy and preferred to be an observer. However ironically she loved to dance, play musical instruments and perform as well. The creative side is non discriminate in Shana. Till this day, music and dance are a huge part of her life. She also had an aptitude for everything mechanical and would often take things apart to see how they worked. This would serve her well in her future when she had a 5 year stint as a auto mechanic.
In Shana’s developmental years she had a temporary but long lasting hearing impairment from constant ear infections that led to an extremely muffled version of hearing. That and being extremely nearsighted unbenounced to anybody till 4th grade, created a unique way of processing everyday life. It has definitely attributed to her style and content while expressing her interpretation of the world around her. Her highly expressive work can have a fearless, unflinching use of bold strokes whether in black and white or colors. But can also have a sometimes blurry, and erratic sculptural feel as well. A heightened sense of touch is felt through out her work with the use of various materials and textures.
Empathy has always been a dominate trait in her personality, almost to a fault. Shana has been faced with numerous challenges in life along with being a witness to many. Because of this, some of her work can be provocative, introspective and visceral. Her work in color offers balance while keeping the eye interested and challenged.
Shana graduated with a BFA from The Art Institute of Boston (now part of Lesley University) in 2000. Her focus while attending was sculpture and installation art. Not only a fine artist but also a hair artist. She has a cosmetology license and is a practicing hair stylist in Boston, MA. Married to her husband with 2 small children She resides in Lowell, MA. Shana’s art studio is in her house.
